Julianne Moore teams up again with director/writer Todd Haynes from her 1995 breakthrough film, Safe. The multitalented Haynes was also the writer and director of Velvet Goldmine, Poison, and Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story. Moore is joined in the cast by actors Dennis Quaid and Dennis Haysbert (TV's 24).

The film is set in suburban Connecticut in the late 1950s. The movie deals not only with sexual issues, but racial ones as well. Our story revolves around a well-to-do family whose lives are filled with society functions at the club, daily family etiquette, and the privileges of an upper-class life.

Their lives are turned upside down when the wife (Moore) finds her husband (Quaid) in bed with another man. She also has to deal with the pressures she feels by developing a friendship with her black gardener (Haysbert). Of course, there is a great deal of gossip in the community about the situations, which puts an even greater strain on the family.

Production started on the film in mid-October 2001 in New York and New Jersey. The studio gave them a budget of $13.5 million to complete the project and bring it to theaters nationwide. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
