Okay, stop screaming. Really.
Returning behind the camera for the first time since 1997's The Postman ("I am sorry. I am so sorry. What the heck was I thinking?"), Kevin Costner also stars in this Wild West action/drama, based on the novel The Open Range Men.
Costner, Robert Duvall, Abraham Benrubi (ER) and Diego Luna (Y tu mama tambien) play four ranch hands who (what else?) battle an evil rancher who ruthlessly controls a frontier town, played by Michael Gambon. Annette Bening is the requisite love interest.
While the words "A film by Kevin Costner" strike fear in the hearts of even the bravest souls, someone at Touchstone must see something they like: it's been given a tentative May release date and looks to be primed to start the summer for the studio.
The question is, can it? Westerns aren't exactly in vogue right now (remember American Outlaws? Or Texas Rangers?), and Costner isn't on much of a hot streak himelf. But again, by giving it a high profile release, the studio obviously has faith in the film. (Tim Briody/BOP)
