Director and co-writer Jed Weintrob is an admitted Internet junkie. He came up with the idea of bringing some of this “life” to the big screen. This movie is the end product of that vision.
Even though the Internet bubble popped, apparently entrepreneurs John (Josh Hamilton) and his roommate Moe (Herold Perrineau) think they can make a living by opening up an adult chat web site. The film follows their lives and those of other Internet addicts. Much of the film takes place in split-screen computer screen shots of these people talking to each other and giving themselves pleasure. We also see that these Internet “relationships” don’t translate to success when they meet in person.
I’m wondering how much interest we will see in this film. I think people know that people get their jollies through Internet porn and are sick of the spam it creates in their e-mail In-boxes. The film did take a Best Feature Film in a Silicon Valley film festival. I don’t know how well it will play outside of that arena.
One last note about the filming of this movie. The introduction of the film states that it takes place in January 2002. However, there are some shots with the World Trade Center buildings present in the frame. I’m not sure if this was done on purpose or not, but it may not sit well with still sensitive audiences.
