Writer/director Mike Figgis is probably best known for his last, and very unique, film, Timecode. If you remember that film, Figgis put four stories on the movie screen at one time using a split-screen technique. He's done the same thing again, but added new film tricks, including night vision, slow motion, and superimposed images. It's quite a visually active film.
The four stories are as follows: 1) The filming of a Dogme 95 film featuring the director (Rhys Ifans) and his touchy producer (David Schwimmer), 2) The filming of a "making of" documentary about that film which includes an always underfoot and nosy journalist (Salma Hayek), 3) A murder plot complete with hit man (Andrea Di Stefano), and 4) The unusual nighttime goings-on of the hotel staff. As with Timecode, you may have to go back and watch this film a couple times to see all four stories and have them make sense.
Some comments about this movie have been more critical than were heard with Timecode. I guess people figure Figgis had time to work on this technique and are expecting bigger and better things. If you've seen Timecode, you'll know what to expect, if not, I suggest you may want to rent the DVD and get yourself in the right mindset.
