I laughed once and giggled once. This film far exceeded my expectations. |

Less consistent than Scary Movie 3, it still has its moments. |
Although it would be nice to say that this movie was greenlighted after the astounding success of Scary Movie 3 last October, the truth is that the film was picked up way back in April of 2003. The move certainly seemed somewhat surprising at the time, given the huge drop-off in financial success for the first sequel, but after the monstrous performance of the third film, the Weinsteins are looking rather prescient.
The Scary Movie franchise stopped spoofing horror movies long ago, of course, and its primary target this go-around will be the superhero/comic book film genre, a ploy which should work out quite nicely given the large number of such films that are again scheduled for 2004 (most notably Spider-Man 2).
Both director David Zucker and screenwriter Craig Mazin return for the fourth installment, good picks given their huge success with the third film. As for the cast, it has not yet been announced, and even Anna Faris, who was in the first three movies in the series, is not yet signed on for this picture. The cast, though, is really somewhat irrelevant, as it is the franchise’s timeliness that has kept it alive to date, and with a seemingly-endless set of genres to parody, there’s no telling how long this movie series could go on.
