Irony, thy name is Jennifer Lopez. How appropriate is it for J Lo to be starring in a movie where her character is having a rocky time with her engagement?
Lopez plays Charlotte “Charlie” Honeywell, a professional dog walker who’s having a having a hard time finding any good men to date. Her endless streak of blind dates always seems to end up in disappointment or disaster. Lucky for her, she finally meets the perfect guy.
However, her future mother-in-law (Jane Fonda) is a piece of work. She thinks that no woman is good enough for her son, especially Ms. Honeywell. The mother-in-law goes so far as to try to sabotage their relationship. Will Charlie ever be able to find happiness with her new beau?
Jane Fonda is coming out of a 14-year retirement for this film. She last appeared in a feature film in the 1990 film Stanley and Iris with Robert DeNiro. Maybe what lured her out was the promise of a really good screenplay (written by rookie Anya Kochoff). There was apparently a fierce bidding war among several studios for this script, with New Line Cinema eventually paying $1.3 million! (Marty Doskins/BOP)
