Don't Tell Scotty is great, but the rest of the film is wildly uneven. |
Many new relationships have developed since the Internet came into being. But do you really know who you’re talking to? That’s the question that the writing team of Alec Berg, David Mandel, and Jeff Schaffer wants to examine in this film.
Our story is about a high school student named Scott Thomas (Scott Mechlowicz), who has been using an Internet “pen pal” to help him with his German assignments for years. The tutor, “Mieke” (Jessica Bohrs) suggests that they should meet. After all, they seem to have a lot in common and have been getting along fabulously. Knowing what he knows about Internet relationships, Scott panics a little when he thinks that “Mieke” is either some perverted guy or a sexual predator of some kind.
But when Scott finds out that Mieke is really a cute German hottie, he decides to take a “road trip” to Europe after graduation. He brings along his best friend Cooper (Jacob Pitts) and twins Jenny (Michelle Trachtenberg) and Jamie (Travis Wester). Together they have an exciting and crazy trip from London on their way to Berlin to meet Mieke in person.
Since the filmmakers had some money to spend, they decided to give the movie a distinct European feel by actually shooting in Europe, mostly in the Czech Republic, during early summer of 2003. The movie is scheduled for a relatively quick release and should be in theaters before the end of February 2004. They also had a tough time deciding on the final title for the film. During marketing group sessions they reportedly considered such names as A Fistful of Euros, Scott Does Europe, and What a Frau Wants before finally settling on Eurotrip. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
