Spider-Man 3

Release Date: May 4, 2007

Ooh, black suit Spidey is broody.

On the Big Board
Position Staff In Brief
15/22 Amanda Jones A huge disappointment, but not entirely a suck-fest.
27/33 John Seal So much exposition, so little action
34/48 Kim Hollis I actually quite enjoyed it, probably because it reminded me of the more slapsticky stuff from Sam Raimi's past. Bruce Campbell steals the show, though.
35/50 Michael Bentley Evil Peter Parker is indeed as bad as you've heard it is, but much of the rest of the movie falls flat as well.
45/46 Les Winan Very disappointing. Too many plots make for a boring and underdeveloped movie. Also, revenge jazz dance? Really? Spidey deserves better.
62/214 Max Braden Franco actually had a brief shining moment of villain screen dominance and then it was gone. Parker's Saturday Night Fever montage was a step to the ridiculous.

Digg Button
With both Spider-Man and its sequel, Spider-Man 2 becoming two of the biggest hits in box office history, it was only natural that a third (and possibly a fourth) sequel would be scheduled. All of the pieces have come together for the folks who have created a unique and remarkable comic book fantasy world to once again work their magic.

Director Sam Raimi is returning to helm the project, which once again stars Tobey Maguire as the webslinger. Additionally, staples from the first two projects such as Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane and James Franco will also come back for more.

Along with those critical three actors, a couple of new performers will join the fold. Thomas Haden Church created so much buzz with his outstanding supporting role in Sideways that it was really only a matter of time before we saw him in a more mainstream project. Like the talented Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina before him, Church will play the movie's villain. Additionally, the quirky but terrific Topher Grace will also have a key role.

The screenplay from Alvin Sargent has largely been kept under wraps up to this point, with speculation being that Venom might be the key Spidey nemesis this time around. Of course, in Hollywood, nothing is guaranteed. I do believe we can promise that this latest outing in a franchise that has been a financial and critical darling will be a monstrous, fantastic success. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
