So plodding. It felt like the film was trying to be deliberate and crossed the line into just plain boring. |
From writer/director Jieho Lee comes this movie based on a Chinese proverb. The Air I Breathe is made up of four overlapping and interconnecting stories that examine happiness, sorrow, pleasure and love. The various story lines follow a businessman who bets his life on a horse race, a gangster who can see the future, a pop star who gets in bad graces with a crime boss, and a doctor who finds himself in a situation where he has to save the love of his life.
The film features an excellent cast, which includes Kevin Bacon, Andy Garcia, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Brendan Fraser, Julie Delpy, Emile Hirsch and recent Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker.
The Air I Breathe is being distributed by THINKFilm, which means that it will receive limited distribution. It has so far made appearances at Cannes and Tribeca, where it has received pretty positive reception. Look for it to attract fans of independent film. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
