Based on a book by Jim Stovall, The Ultimate Gift is being rolled out by Fox Faith, a smaller distribution branch of 20th Century Fox that focuses on faith-based releases. Stovall has overcome blindness to achieve many impressive feats, including becoming a champion Olympic weightlifter, an investment broker, entrepreneur and author. He has worked as a motivational speaker and co-founded the National Narrative Network, which works to make movies and TV accessible to the blind and visually impaired.
The Ultimate Gift begins as we learn about a self-made man named Red Stevens (James Garner). Stevens made so much out of his life that he wanted to share it with his family. Trouble is, they've become complacent and greedy in the process. As Stevens' estate - including several oil companies - is divided out amongst his heirs, one of them has a chance to stand out and do something special and unexpected. That person is Red's great-nephew, Jason (Drew Fuller of Charmed).
The ingenious way that Red has arranged to make his relatives work hard is to create a crash course on life that makes them carry out 12 tasks - or "gifts". All of them will challenge Jason to determine what is most important in life - money or happiness.
Along with Garner and Fuller, The Ultimate Gift also features an appearance by recent Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin. It should play well in the heartland of America as it gets fairly wide support from the distributor. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
