Digg Button
Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman play siblings from a dysfunctional family in The Savages. Linney portrays Wendy, a playwright from the East Village who gets through her days by self-medicating, applying for grants, and dating her neighbor - a man who is completely and utterly married. Hoffman is Jon, a Buffalo resident and obsessive compulsive professor who spends his time writing books on obscure subjects. Despite the fact that his girlfriend is such a talented cook that he cries real tears when she serves him dinner, he simply can't find it in his heart to completely commit to her.

One day, Wendy and Jon get a call that will change their lives dramatically. Their father Lenny(Philip Bosco), a man whose path they have meticulously avoided, has lost his mind. There is no one left to help him but his children. When Wendy and Jon are forced into living under the same roof to care for him, they quickly remember all of the old things about each other that made for constant aggravation. As they are forced to deal with their father's illness and potential final days, they learn more about the real meaning of family. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
