Audience favorite at this year's AFI festival in Dallas, Steven Sawalich's feature, Music Within, tells the true story of a Vietnam War vet, Richard Pimental (played by Ron Livingston), who returns home with severe hearing disabilities. Outraged with the lackluster welcome home of veterans from an unpopular war, Pimental begins a crusade to bring awareness and assistance to his fellow vets who have suffered a disability thanks to the war. Pimental's actions were instrumental to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act which was passed into law by George H Bush in 1990.
Music Within has played several film festivals and the United States and was picked up by MGM at the European Film Market in Cannes earlier this year. This feel-good drama also stars Melissa George, Michael Sheen and Hector Elizondo, and is expected to receive a very small theatrical release later this fall with hopes of picking up some awareness for its actors before award season kicks into high gear.
