Heist
Release Date:
November 9, 2001
Release pushed back from October 19th
In a fall season replete with crime-themed dramas and comedies, Heist stands out primarily for its credited writer/director, David Mamet (State and Main, The Untouchables, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Spanish Prisoner, The Edge). Veteran character actor Gene Hackman stars in this story of a band of thieves set on making that one big score by ripping off a jewelry store. Danny DeVito also stars.
Considering its run-of-the-mill premise, and typical eye-candy action and explosions featured in the trailer, the R-rated Heist may yet enjoy a credible, if not spectacular, run at the box office, as it stands alone within its genre appeal when it debuts in the last weekend of October. (Cal Hubbard/BOP)
August 23, 2001 This film has now been shuffled around on the release schedule twice in the last month. It was first set for September 7th, then moved to October 26th. Its current opening date is October 19th. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
September 30, 2001 Warner Bros. has shrewdly moved Heist's release to November 9th. MGM had only recently pushed Windtalkers from that date to June 2002, leaving Shallow Hal as the sole opener. Heist will have a better chance at standing out on this particular weekend.
