When will the spoof madness end? Sure, we understand that Scary Movie is a money making factory and that no one's getting off that gravy train anytime soon, but the horrific quality of Date Movie and Epic Movie should have given someone - anyone - pause. I suppose as long as these things keep opening to around $18 million, studios will keep pumping them out.
Meet the Spartans is ostensibly a sequel to Epic Movie. However, it seems since the focus is primarily one single film - 300 - the powers that be who decide movie titles went with something that indicates exactly what sort of thing we can be expecting. And if the trailer is any indication, it's not going to be anything good. One joke is basically repeated twice just in the short span of the preview. And the fact that Britney Spears is in ancient Sparta should send off warning bells all over the place.
The producers of the film do deserve credit for one thing. The casting of Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Adventures) in one of the lead roles is pretty much a genius move. He's actually quite funny and should be the sole high point in what is certain to be a grim outing.
Sadly enough, this isn't the end of the line for spoof films, either. Superhero Movie is scheduled for release not long after Meet the Spartans hits theaters. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
