The many things it did absolutely right couldn't quite make up enough for the ones it did just wrong. |
Jennifer Aniston, Frances McDormand, Joan Cusack and Catherine Keener star in this movie about life-long friends who live on the West coast and are approaching a "certain age". They all enjoy a comfortable existence and live in a world of designer clothing, charity events and caring for family.
Olivia (Jennifer Aniston) has recently quit her teaching job and has started instead cleaning houses for a living. In the midst of a personal crisis, she's looking for financial and emotional support from her wealthier acquaintances. Olivia is also in search of a significant other, but finds the dating pool to be somewhat less than satisfactory.
Jane and Aaron (Frances McDormand and Simon McBurney) are married designers who have found great success in their profession. Unfortunately, their marriage is flourishing somewhat less. Not only have they become oblivious to the needs and concerns of each other, but they're not even completely self-aware.
Christine and Patrick (Catherine Keener and Jason Isaacs) are married screenwriters who are currently working together on a script and also expanding their home. As is almost certain to be the case in such situations, tensions are quite high.
Franny and Matt (Joan Cusack and Bob Stephenson) are independently wealthy and raising their children in affluence. Still, their well-being as a couple is not any more healthy than that of their friends.
Friends with Money shows these people as they move from one get together to another, featuring various loves and friendships that are constantly evolving. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
