In Ghana, West Africa, people who are born disabled are likely to be either poisoned or left to die by their families. In the instances where they are allowed to live, the disabled are generally either hidden away in a room or find themselves begging on the streets. Out of the 20 million people who live in Ghana, two million are disabled.
Emmanuel's Gift tells the story of one man who makes it his mission to change the way that he and other disabled people are viewed in his country. Oprah Winfrey narrates the tale of Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, a young man who was born with a severely deformed right leg. His means of inspiring his countrymen is a 600 kilometer bicycle ride across Ghana. Despite his disability, he is able to complete his quest and capture the imagination and hearts of his fellow men.
