1997 saw the release of the cult classic film Cube from director Vincenzo Natali. He follows up that interesting film with another thriller, but this time he breaks out of the confines of the mysterious box.
Jeremy Northam plays Morgan Sullivan, a man who is tired of his boring suburban life. He finds a way to spice up his life by entering the world of corporate espionage. He loves his new lifestyle and everything seems to be going his way finally. Throughout his work, he keeps running into a mysterious woman named Rita (Lucy Liu). She seems to know more about Sullivan’s line of work than he does.
As is the case with many spy stories, he is dragged farther and farther into this life until the line between his real and work identities gets blurred. But Rita looks like the one that may hold the secrets that can get him out once and for all.
This film was shot on a reported budget of under $10 million in Toronto back in 2001. Since its world premiere at the SITGES Film Festival on October 7, 2002, it has been winning critical acclaim from audiences and critics alike. It sounds like this one will have a limited theatrical release in the U.S., but if past performance is any indicator audiences should flock to their local video store if they miss it on the big screen.
