Formula sports story shows surprising amount of warmth and depth. A pleasant surprise. |
A young man named Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) is given the opportunity of a lifetime. To get there, though, he'll have to leave behind everything that is familiar to him - his family, his friends, and the Los Angeles scenery that has surrounded him all his days. His new world will be in England, where he'll become part of a professional soccer team.
Santiago never seemed like a guy who would be headed in that direction. He's grown up as a poor Mexican-American who appeared to be content laboring in the same sorts of menial jobs that his father took on. He has a talent for soccer, but the only place he really uses it is in recreational leagues. A British scout views one of his games, though, and everything changes in an instant. He'll have to overcome being a fish-out-of-water to fulfill a potential destiny of winning the World Cup.
Several real-life soccer players will appear in the film, including David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Raúl, and Alan Shearer. The film is planned as the first in a trilogy. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
