A crime comedy from 2012 released on dvd this year. I was surprised this is a Coen brothers movie. Only Firth in his underwear amused me. |
The Good Girl, Jennifer Aniston, is ready to do something naughty. She has signed on to protray the Shirley MacLaine character in a re-make of the 1966 classic, Gambit.
As in the original movie, the modern update tells the story of the perfect crime...on paper. In practice, the scheme winds up going horribly awry as a mastermind's blueprint for robbing a tycoon turns out to be have a fatal flaw. The idea is to bilk a billionaire out of an expensive statue using a woman (Aniston) who happens to be the spitting image of his deceased wife. Ben Kingsley has reportedly been contacted about playing the rich man.
The most intriguing aspect of the script is that its first draft was written by none other than the Coen Brothers before they wound up dropping out of the project. Their replacement, Burr Steers, has also since dropped out as writer/director, so Aniston's casting is the first recent confirmation that Gambit is still on the front-burner for Universal Pictures.
