Enough scatological humor and sex jokes to keep a fraternity laughing all night. Sober folks, on the other hand, will*not* be pleased. |
Finally, we have a film that explains why every restaurant in Santa Monica has the best-looking employees this side of a porno shoot. In a city where every waiter and waitress has an agent and a head shot, there is no more natural role than that of...well...waiter/waitress. Robert McKittrick has witnessed this phenomenon (or he became addicted to the reality show The Restaurant) and has chosen to write and direct a movie about it.
Waiting tells the story of a group of disaffected 20-somethings seeking to survive the inanity of their lives waiting tables for a living while they wait for something better to come along. Imagine if you will the job Jennifer Aniston's character had in Office Space extended out to be a full 100 minutes worth of celluloid.
Admittedly, the concept does not sound unique, but the cast has a knack for comedy. BOP fave Ryan Reynolds might have been doomed by an awful script in Van Wilder, but his natural charisma is such that he still managed to turn lame attempts at humor into (shameful) giggles. Anna Faris, last seen spoofing Cameron Diaz in Lost in Translation, has lost all the weight after having Chandler and Monica's baby, so she is ready to co-star.
The supporting cast is also stellar. Jay Mohr, who has recently suffered through an ESPN firing and a Fastlane casting, looks to revive his flagging career as the restaurant manager. Busta Rhymes is taking time out from his busy schedule of...well...busting rhymes to portray the sardonic dishwasher. Meanwhile, Luis Guzman has been cast to give the film some indie credibility and Molly Simms of Las Vegas is there to handle the part of southern belle eye candy. (David Mumpower/BOP)
