Fogler is fairly funny and there are some laughs (relative to stupid comedies) here but it's mostly a pass. |
How does former Ping-Pong superstar Randy Daytona, who was disgraced and forced to now make a living as a Vegas show Act, redeem himself? He goes undercover for the FBI to take down illegal Asian back-alley To-the-Death Ping Pong Tournaments, of course.
Balls of Fire was written by the creators of Reno 911, Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, with the latter also directing. It stars Dan Folger, the Tony Award-winning actor of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It also features Christopher Walken as Feng, the Asian crime lord responsible for the death of Randy’s father. George Lopez plays FBI Agent Rodriquez. Asian supermodel Maggie Q (Mission: Impossible III) and Aisha Tyler also appear.
In the right hands (Will Ferrell? the Farrelly Brothers?) this would be a very funny premise. Let’s hope the writers and cast are up to the challenge. (D. James Ruccio/BOP)
