Curtis Hanson follows up such highly regarded work as L.A. Confidential, Wonder Boys and 8 Mile with this movie set in the world of championship poker. Considering that poker's popularity is at a remarkable high at the moment, the timing for the movie's release couldn't be better.
Eric Bana portrays Huck Cheever, a gifted young professional poker player with a number of personal demons. As he tries to work through those issues, he is also attempting to win a world championship of poker. On his way, he encounters a wise but struggling singer (Drew Barrymore) who imparts her perception and insight to him. Ultimately, his quest for victory brings him into a contest with his estranged father (Robert Duvall).
Look for Lucky You to attract some awards attention as it sees release toward the end of the year. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
