New Port South
Release Date:
September 7, 2001
Limited release
Given that the sole recognizable face in this film is Melissa George (Aussie Playboy, ABC's Thieves, Sugar and Spice, Mullholland Drive), and she's not that recognizable, this film about a group of teens causing trouble in a high school wouldn't garner much attention. However, New Port South is written by James Hughes, the son of legendary '80s (that sounds like long ago, doesn't it) director John. Even that has done very little to raise the profile of the project.
Directed by Kyle Cooper (never directed anything in his life), the film has been released on a limited basis in select cities. Judging by the reaction and attention lavished on that limited release, this film is as close to direct-to-video land or "dead on arrival" box office status as there is. Perhaps using Ms. George's Aussie Playboy photos as the one-sheet would help. (Les Winan/BOP)
