Effervescent story and spirited cast turn mundane premise into lively entertainment. |
Hailey and Claire are 12-year-olds who have been next door neighbors and best friends all of their lives, but now Claire's family is getting ready to move to Florida. And so it is that the two girls spend a hot, blistering summer at the Capri Beach Club - which is set to be bulldozed at the end of the season - hanging out and dreading the end of things as they are right now.
As the girls worry about the impending changes that are coming their way, a summer storm hits the community. At the beach club, the pool has been filled with jellyfish and seaweed. When Hailey dives in to check things out further, she discovers a slight little blue and white mermaid who is just a little bit grumpy over the predicament she finds herself in. Although the girls are trying to plan a way to return the fish-girl to her home in the sea, the mermaid stubbornly refuses to leave because she has a bit of a crush on Raymond, the charming boy who runs the gift shop.
Finding themselves at an impasse and concerned about their new friend's failing health, Hailey and Claire reach an agreement with the mermaid. If she can spend one evening with Raymond, she'll then go back to the sea. The question is whether they can pull it off. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
