After a series of career-killing film choices, Cuba Gooding Jr. returns once again to the big screen, this time in a cop/crime drama that will receive limited release. He co-stars with Clifton Collins Jr., who recently captured some attention in the critical fave Capote as the murderous Perry Smith.
Set in Los Angeles, the movie looks at a city that is becoming beset by violent crime. As a result, the LAPD uses whatever means necessary to eliminate the bad guys from the streets, subverting the American legal system as they perform the duties of judge, jury and executioner. This leads to corruption and police brutality spinning gradually out of control, and leads Armando Sancho (Collins Jr.), a former gang member-turned-top to question the wisdom of taking on the job of police officer. When Internal Affairs gives him the chance to speak his mind about his unit's transgressions, he must decide whether to go with his conscience and tell the truth or stick behind loyalty to his fellow officers.
Finally, on the day that Sancho and his partner Salim (Gooding Jr.) are scheduled to testify, the two agree to take charge of a profitable but illegal job for the top officers at the station (Keith David and Cole Hauser). This bloody assignment will take them from one end of Los Angeles to another, and proves to them that easing their mind and telling the truth is much more difficult than they ever bargained for. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
