This romantic offering from China had its world premiere at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. It even won an award for sound.
The story is about Hsiao-Kang, a watch vendor who sells his wares in the streets of Taipei. A few days after his father's death, he has a brief yet influential encounter with Shiang-Chyi, a lovely young woman who is flying to Paris the next day. His mother's reaction to his father's death is bothering him so he takes refuge in his meeting with Shiang-Chyi. To keep his heart connected to her, he sets every watch and clock he sees to Paris time. As he's doing this, many strange coincidences take place in the two cities.
Director Tsai Ming-Liang is one of Taiwan's major directors and it looks like he's put out another winner. Watch your local movie listings for this one. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
