Italian for Beginners
Release Date:

This film won several awards at the 2001 Berlin International Film Festival including the Jury Prize-Silver Berlin Bear and the Prize of the Churches of the Ecumenical Jury. It has appeared to favorable reviews at many film festivals since its debut in December 2000 in its native Denmark.
The film is a romantic comedy that revolves around six singles who are all taking an Italian language class in a Copenhagen suburb. They gradually pair off into couples. The replacement pastor pairs up with the pastry shop assistant, the hairdresser pairs up with the rude waiter, and the hotel manager pairs up with the young Italian waitress. That eclectic group of characters should get you interested in seeing this film.
For those of you not living in New York or Los Angeles, keep a close eye on your local movie listings. They have a tendency to only show up for a brief period of time, if at all. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
