Liz is a successful author in search of a daughter, Rachel, who has run away. She heads for a beach in the magical Sinai Desert, and decides to stay there despite her daughter's objections. There, she meets a Bedouin storyteller.
This person tells her about the singular romance between a Western tourist named Leila and Najim, the son of a Bedouin sheik. This affair took place several years before on the exact same beach where Liz is staying. Ultimately, Najim makes the unfortunate decision to bring Leila into his own Muslim tribe. One of their long-standing traditions leaves her traumatized, and the love story comes to a tragic end.
After hearing the story, Rachel becomes captivated, going on to learn some surprising things about her own mother's life and as a result, her past. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
