The definition of an uninspired, by-the-numbers sequel. |
Did you know that not only is there a missing secret about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, but that the secret is in the missing pages of John Wilkes Booth's diary? Luckily, Benjamin Franklin Gates is on the case. As played by Nicolas Cage, Gates is an obsessive treasure hunter just coming off stealing the Declaration of Independence – (only to protect it, of course). Our conquering hero now has to discover the truth about the assassination of President Lincoln by frantically tracking down missing pages of Booth's diary. After all, if Gates didn't find the truth, how would Booth be properly punished?
The cast includes Jon Voight as Gates' father (who tends to disapprove of his son's hobbies), Diane Kruger as his love interest (who is also a historian), and Justin Bartha as his wacky sidekick. Obviously, this is also a movie that Harvey Keitel should be in, so he is. National Treasure: The Book of Secrets is a Jerry Bruckheimer production, so you should expect quick editing, explosions and a lot of action. (Les Winan/BOP)
