From Jacques Audiard, the director of the indie hit Read My Lips, comes this update of the 1977 James Toback thriller Fingers. That film starred Harvey Keitel as a concert pianist/debt collector who was torn between his life of crime and his love of classical music.
The protagonist in Audiard's film is based on the Keitel character. Tom is a 28-year-old who is definitely devoting himself to a life of crime as he follows in his father's footsteps. His father had earned a living by making dirty (and occasionally violent) real estate deals. Somehow, though, Tom has a chance encounter that prompts him to become a concert pianist - just like his mother had been. As he tries to take back his life and sees the possibility of finding true love, his criminal past comes back to haunt him. In the end, Tom must decide whether to continue being like his father or pursue his dream of becoming a classical pianist. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
