A big swing and a miss. A good idea, but takes a while to get going and just not funny when it does. |

I get the idea, but these actors just get on my nerves too much to enjoy it. |
Despite threatening to never do such a project again, Christopher Guest will return to the realm of the mockumentary with For Your Consideration. Previously, Guest has made a name for himself in spoofs of the non-fiction film, from This Is Spinal Tap to Waiting for Guffman to Best in Show to A Mighty Wind. After starring in the Rob Reiner-directed Spinal Tap, took hold of the helmer's chair for himself in the movies that followed.
Now that Guest and friends - a group that consistently includes Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Fred Willard, Harry Shearer, Bob Balaban, Michael McKean and Parker Posey - have conquered the worlds of community theater, dog shows and folk music, they're ready to take on the movie industry. For Your Consideration will center around three actors who are shooting a small, independent film called Home for Purim. Their movie is a drama set in the mid-1940s American South. When the group finds out that their performances are getting awards buzz, their lives are turned topsy-turvy.
Guest will star as the director of the film, a guy who has shot 18 sitcom pilots, none of which have become series. Levy will portray an agent, while the three actors will be played by O'Hara, Posey and Shearer. Ricky Gervais will make his first Guest appearance as the head of a studio specialty division that is producing Purim. Other cast members include Jennifer Coolidge and the aforementioned Balaban, McKean and Willard. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
