This French film is the feature-film debut of director Anne-Sophie Birot. She has brought us a delightful coming-of-age film.
The film follows two friends, Gwen and Lise, who grew up in opposite parts of France but vacation together every summer where Gwen lives and Lise's family has a summer home. This year, Lise's family isn't going on vacation and she won't tell Gwen why. This upsets Gwen, and she decides to have fun without her so-called friend this summer. But when Lise shows up anyway, it puts a tremendous strain on their friendship, because Gwen has grown up a lot faster than Lise.
This film has been receiving positive reviews so far and even won Honorable Mention in the Narrative category at the 2001 Newport International Film Festival. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
