Based on a novel by Clyde Edgerton, Killer Diller starts out when a guitar-playing car thief named Wesley Benfield is arrested for violating his parole and sent to a halfway house located smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt. An odd zealot named Ned Sears runs the house, and he's currently recruiting talented young felons to play in his hymn-playing band. As a result, Wesley and the other band members find themselves cooped up, playing music to retirees and grade school kids.
Everything changes, though, when Wesley meets an autistic savant named Vernon, who plays a magnificent blues piano. The formerly in-the-dumps group finds new life, and along with new singer Shanita Scott, they call themselves the Killer Diller Blues Band. And all they have to do to break on through is to break the law one final time. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
