Jim Caviezel plays the widowed husband of a woman who was killed when she was run down by a car. It seems that the driver is a deranged killer who has murdered many women in the same manner. Caviezel teams up with a survivor of one such attack to track the madman.

The main selling point of this movie, from the little publicity released for it at this point, is that it promises to have loads of scenes featuring 1970s muscle cars being used in fast and furious ways. Considering the plot and the movie's stars, this may not be the worst strategy. Caviezel is not exactly a box office draw and suspense films tend not to do landslide business in the summer. The last weekend in August has not been particularly kind to these types of films, either In 2002, Fear.com opened on this weekend; in 2001, it was Jeepers Creepers. Neither film did the same type of summer box office numbers as those released earlier in the summer. Unless the marketing really connects with those who love fast cars, don't expect much from this movie box office-wise. (Calvin Trager/BOP)

July 13, 2003
Highwaymen is no longer opening in August but rather December, which actually is a sign that the movie might be better than the initial release date would have indicated. This movie is one with a definite "Duel" feel about it. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

August 29, 2003
Variety reports that New Line may push this release into 2004. (Jennifer Turnock/BOP)
