Rupert Grint, best known as Harry Potter's best friend Ron, toplines this significantly smaller-budgeted film about a young man who does some growing during his summer vacation. Grint plays a young man named Ben, a withdrawn, intelligent young man who is attending bible classes and having driving lessons with his mother (Laura Linney) while other kids his age are out having a fun summer. It's not exactly ideal, but since his mother is overbearing and in control, he doesn't feel as though he has a lot of choice.
Everything changes when he meets an eccentric retired actress named Evie (Julie Walters). Ben takes a job assisting the frequently bizarre woman, and finds himself drawn to her compelling and charismatic force of nature. Soon, she's convincing her new young friend to join her on a series of adventures.
Ultimately, Ben and Evie wind up heading out on a camping trip together, and soon that turns into a much bigger road trip to the Edinburgh Festival. Ben ignores all of the conservative instincts instilled into him by his family and takes the wheel. Naturally, both Ben and Evie will have plenty to learn from each other, and will emerge changed for the better by the time it's all said and done. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
