Undercover Brother
Release Date:
May 31, 2002
This film brings the animated Web series of the same name to life. This film is a throwback to the classic blaxploitation films of the 1970s.
Eddie Griffin (Double Take) stars as secret agent Anton Jackson, AKA Undercover Brother, who works for a super-secret organization known as The Brotherhood. They are always looking for ways to help out African-Americans. This time, Jackson is helping to take down "The Man", played by Saturday Night Live's Chris Kattan.
The Man and his minions are out to stop a black Presidential candidate from winning the election. With the help of his sidekick, Sistah Girl (Aunjanue Ellis), and other agents such as Conspiracy Brother (Dave Chappelle) and Smart Brother (Anthony Williams), they try to save the day for the candidate. And, of course, how could The Brotherhood be complete without a token white member, played by Neil Patrick Harris.
It should be interesting to see how movie-goers react to this film. I believe that this film will appeal to a somewhat limited audience. Many people might be uncomfortable with the subject matter and how it is presented. But you never know; a clever marketing campaign can do wonders for the bottom line. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
