I rented this because I needed something silly and stupid and it only delivered on the latter. Reproducing isn't the same as spoofing. |
Now that we're four Scary Movies in, along with Date Movie and Not Another Teen Movie, someone felt that it was time to tackle that most vaunted of movie types - the blockbuster. Two of the writers from the original Scary Movie are at the helm, working from their own screenplay.
The movie looks at the lives of four not-so-young orphans. One of them has been raised by a curator at the infamous Louvre (coincidentally, an albino assassin is also hanging out there). Another comes from a background of Mexican "libre" wrestling. The third was a victim of snakes on an airplane, and the final orphan is a "normal" person who resides in a mutant community. The group goes to a chocolate factory, which leads them to a magical wardrobe that takes them to the land of Gnarnia. While there, they join forces with a flamboyant pirate, some students of wizardry, and a wise-though-horny lion in an effort to defeat Gnarnia's White Bitch.
Given the success that many of these other spoof films have had, it seems likely that Epic Movie has a shot at striking a chord, particularly as all of its targets are highly recognizable. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
