Hartnett is pretty good as the cocky salesman, and the movie gives a sense of the tech bubble era, but the movie fizzles more than pops. |
One of the first films to really reflect the dark side of the eventual dot-com bust of the early 2000's, August stars BOP fave Josh Hartnett as Tom Sterling, a dot-com entrepreneur in August 2001 who is very close to having his startup Landshark hit it big, and hoping his venture capital holds out until then. During this time, however, the stock market begins to show signs of weakening, and Sterling himself begins to unravel, both personally and professionally. Starring along with Hartnett are Robin Tunney, Adam Scott, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Rip Torn and David Bowie.
August debuted at this year's Sundance Film Festival and will be given a limited release by First Look Studios. (Tim Briody/BOP)
