Sebastian Gutierrez, who has previously done writing on the television series Karen Sisco as well as Snakes on a Plane, directs a horror film from his own screenplay. His previous work has been quite intelligent, so we do have some reason for optimism where Rise: Blood Hunter is concerned.
Lucy Liu stars as a reporter who suddenly wakes up one day in a morgue. This wasn't some simple drunken bender, either. No, she is no longer among the living, though she isn't precisely dead either. Upon realizing that she is a vampire, she becomes determined to hunt the cult responsible for her condition and take them out, one by one. She'll have help from a police detective named Rawlins (Michael Chiklis), whose daughter was killed by the same cult.
Also starring in the film is Gutierrez's girlfriend, Carla Gugino (with whom he previously worked on Karen Sisco). Other performers in the film include Samaire Armstrong, Robert Forster, Marilyn Manson and the late, great Mako. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
