Sunshine State
Release Date:
June 21, 2002
Limited release
It has been tough trying to dig up information about this film, but I'll give it a shot anyway. And how can you go wrong with a movie written and directed by John Sayles (Eight Men Out, Matewan, The Secret of Roan Inish) and starring Angela Bassett and Edie Falco (The Sopranos)? Also included in the cast are such stars as Miguel Ferrer, Timothy Hutton, and Mary Steenburgen.
This film tells the story of the citizens of a Florida island who are under pressure from a group of country-club developers. Bassett plays a woman who is coming back home after being gone for a long time. Falco is forced to sell the motel and restaurant she inherited. We really get to dig into their lives and see what makes them tick.
Sony Pictures Classics is going to give this film a limited release pattern. It should come to larger metropolitan areas after its initial release in New York and Los Angeles. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
