King of the Jungle
Release Date:
November 9, 2001
Limited release
Sporting an all-star cast, King of the Jungle focuses on Seymour, a mentally-disabled young man who lives a happy life with his anti-violence activist mother and her Latina lover. A series of cataclysmic events deprives Seymour of everyone in his life who means anything to him, and poor Seymour is forced to to survive in the jungle that is the streets of New York City.
John Leguizamo, Rosie Perez, Michael Rapapaort, Annabella Sciorra and Marisa Tomei headline the impressive cast, and given the subject matter, this film will need every bit of star power these folks lend to make much of a dent at the box office. The fact that King of the Jungle languished on the shelf for over a year before getting a distributor also doesn't bode well. One would tend to think that, barring superb reviews and outstanding word-of-mouth, King of the Jungle won't survive on the art-house circuit for long after its November 9th release.
