Limited release
Opening on a very limited basis in New York City, with plans to expand to a couple of other cities on subsequent weekends, The Fluffer tells the story of a bizarre love triangle set in the world of adult entertainment. Sean is a young film-school graduate who has just moved to LA. After mistakenly renting a gay pornography video, he becomes obsessed with that movie's star, Johnny Rebel. He gets a job as a cameraman on the set of Johnny's current production, and quickly discovers that Johnny is straight and is, in fact, dating a stripper named Babbylon. When Johnny admits to Sean that he has difficulty, ahem, getting in the mood, he asks the young man to be his fluffer (please don't ask me to elaborate here). From that point, Sean's obsession deepens, and the question becomes whether he will win Johnny over or if he will have to let go.
The film is co-directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland (also known as Wash West), the latter of whom had previously directed only gay pornography. He also wrote the screenplay.
Since the film isn't expected to play in more than a few select cities, I wouldn't expect even the slightest dent in box office numbers. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
