In 2005 Warner Bros. released The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, based on the novels of Ann Brashares. While not a phenomenon, it did become a moderate hit critically and at the box office and on DVD, so with the teen girl market still a solid bet, they are hoping to build on the first movie with a sequel.
A few things have changed. While Alexis Bledel's (Gilmore Girls) and Amber Tamblyn's (Joan of Arcadia) shows have gone off the air, now America Ferrara (Ugly Betty) and Blake Lively (Gossip Girl) have the hits on television. The girls are a little bit older (they're in the first year of college now), but they still share the strong bond of friendship and those titular pants. Four female friends bond over clothing and romantic entanglements. Sound familiar? While this isn't likely to match the success of that certain other summer hit, it could be considered something of Sex and the City: The Next Generation. (Dan Krovich/BOP)
