The story is based on real-life events in the Yugoslavian conflict in 1991. Harrison Lloyd (David Strathairn) is a Newsweek photographer who has just won the Pulitzer Prize for his work; however, he gets criticized for not taking "little" assignments and decides to go off to cover the beginnings of this war.
Shortly after he leaves, his wife Sarah (Andie MacDowell) is told that he has been killed in a battle. But as she's watching CNN one night, she thinks she sees her husband in a group of prisoners. She immediately flies off to the area to find her husband. There are graphic images of the destruction and devastation on both a physical and personal level.
This powerful film has been shown at film festivals all over the world and won several awards including the Jury Award for Best Photography at the 2000 San Sebastian International Film Festival. Watch for it at your local art house. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
