Up on the shore, they work all day. Out in the sun, they slave away,
while we’re devoting full time to floating, under the sea!
(This forward thinking nature doc grants a look into the diverse and colorful coastal regions of the South Pacific, particularly off the shores of Australia and New Guinea. This IMAX-only 3D presentation will also explore the effects of global warming on this region’s flora and fauna, as well as the waters themselves.
This is the third underwater IMAX production by the team of director Howard Hall, producer Toni Myers, and executive producer Graeme Ferguson. Their previous collaborations, Into the Deep and Deep Sea 3D, both drew large crowds into science center IMAX theaters, enjoying healthy runs as the giant-screen nature doc of choice. Jim Carrey is narriting Under the Sea, following up the narration of Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet on Deep Sea 3-D.
There’s no reason to doubt that Under the Sea 3-D will be as beautiful and captivating as its predecessors. However, IMAX films rely on nearly year long runs to pull in a healthy profit, and Under the Sea will face stiff competition from Disney’s Planet Earth takeoff, simply titled Earth, which hits IMAX two months after Under the Sea. Under the Sea should hope to slowly make the science center circuit and concede the multiplex IMAX houses to Disney.)
