Igby Goes Down
Release Date:
September 13, 2002
Pushed back from September 6, 2002
Limited release
This film about a dysfunctional family marks the directorial debut of the film's writer, Burr Steers, who was the co-writer of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Kieran Culkin stars as Igby Slocumb, a teen from a very dysfunctional family who has had enough. His father (Bill Pullman) is losing touch with life. His mother (Susan Sarandon) is a cold woman with a drug dependency. And his brother (Ryan Phillippe) has always been the favored child and is going to be heading off to Columbia University.
Igby decides to go on a spending spree with the help of his mother's credit cards. He's sent off to live with his godfather (Jeff Goldblum), a pompous, wealthy businessman who's charged with giving Igby some guidance in life. While in New York, Igby meets some lovely young ladies (Claire Danes and Amanda Peet) and finds that life is now full of interesting possibilities. But can Igby ever break free from his family once and for all?
Even with the big names in the cast, this film is scheduled for limited release. MGM/United Artists is distributing it. I'm not sure why they decided to go this route, but watch for it at a theater near you. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
June 14, 2002 After being moved from May to late August and then again to early August, MGM/UA has settled on a September 6th release date for Igby Goes Down. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
June 21, 2002 Igby Goes Down continues to be bumped around the schedule, moving one week back from its previously assigned date of September 6th. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
