The Rookie
Release Date:

This film tells the real-life story of Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid), a promising baseball pitcher who had to drop out of the sport because of an injury to his arm. Twelve years later, he is coaching a championship caliber high school baseball team. Inspired by his team, he decides to try and fulfill his dream of playing in the major leagues.
He attended a Tampa Bay Devil Ray tryout and impressed the coaches. They signed him to a minor league contract and three months later, he made his debut in the majors in 1999. He became the oldest rookie to make his major league debut since 1970. He didn't end up with spectacular career statistics. In his two years with Tampa Bay, he pitched 15 innings in 21 games and had a 4.80 ERA with 13 strikeouts. But numbers don't matter when you get to live your dream.
Disney has always been the number one studio making these "feel-good" movies. Let's hope that this one lives up to previous ventures. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
