In 2002, Kim Basinger and Mandy Moore signed on to play a mother/daughter tandem in Aurora Island. The film was to be a theatrical adaptation of the Marianne Gingher short story of the same name. Then, the wheels came off. The idea was abandoned, the stars were released, and the project was mothballed. And that was after the project sat in development with Jerry Bruckheimer beginning as early as 1999.
Fast forward to 2004. Lena Olin and Thora Birch have signed on to play a mother/daughter tandem in The Triangle. The film is based on the short story Aurora Island, written by...well, you know the rest.
The Triangle is a story about just that, a love triangle. A mother and daughter are both seduced by a visiting casanova. As if the two of them were not enough, he also romances the mother's best friend. Apparently, his goal is to make love to every woman of legal age on Aurora Island. The movie examines the conflict and change introduced by the lothario in this sleepy town.
Giovanni Ribisi is cast as the horndog. Lynn Redgrave will play Olin's best friend. The production is to be filmed in Ireland in September. (David Mumpower/BOP)
