ALERT: Title changes ahead! This project was originally known as The Heist, but the filmmakers didn't want this to be confused with the David Mamet film Heist. So they decided to change it to 2-11, the police code for armed robbery. I guess they didn't think that would draw in moviegoers. They finally settled on the current title, $teal, with that clever use of the dollar sign.
Director Gerard Pires makes his English-language debut with this feature film written by Mark Ezra, writer of Savage Hearts. A few big-name talents have been brought aboard for acting duties, including Stephen Dorff and Natasha Henstridge.
The story is about four young men who pull off daring robberies using daring escape techniques to elude the authorities. Their lives are running along smoothly in their life of crime until their encounter with a police detective, and not in the way you may be thinking. This corrupt officer of the law blackmails them into pulling one last big heist worth $20 million.
The movie was filmed during the late 2000/early 2001 timeframe and should finally get a definite theatrical release date soon. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
