Danish director Lone Scherfig, who had a minor hit with her Dogme film Italian for Beginners (a cute film worth renting, particularly if you’re only familiar with Dogme films as somber), returns with this English language non-Dogme offering. Harbour and Wilbur are brothers, who have grown up motherless in Scotland. Her absence has meant that Harbour, the older brother, has had the responsibility of looking after Wilbur, a task made more difficult by the fact that Wilbur is suicidal. That changes when Alice, a cleaning lady from the local hospital, and her daughter enter the brothers’ bookstore. Sounds a bit like Harold and Maude minus a septuagenarian. (Dan Krovich/BOP)
